SOUTHAMPTON IN BALANCE

Southampton has a population of 231 200, of which 63 700 are over the age of 50 (2007 figures). As the population ages, the proportion of seniors is expected to increase, particularly the 85 and over age group. Southampton is a leading city on the south coast of England, but it also has 11 priority neighbourhoods which include some of the most deprived areas in the south east of England.
